Thomas Phelps d 1751, Albemarle, VA
Revised 12/09/2011
This line matches closely with two other Phelps lines not previously associated with this line. For a ydna analysis and comments please link here

Lineages displayed here were provided by individual ydna kit members, or their representatives, who are solely responsible for providing any ethical or copyright credits..
The haplogroup of all the members of this line can reasonably be assumed to be E1a1 because of the deep clade testing of some members. While SNP testing is needed to prove this, FTDNA has expressed their belief that all members are of the same subclade (2/2011)

Descendant Kit 67919 37 markers Has 12 at DYS439 - and Uniquely a 35 at DYS449, typical of many in the Maryland Felps line
NOTE: the inconsistent values of 12 or 13 at DYS439 causes one to wonder if the lineages are aligned correctly. However solid paper trails trump ydna concerns
YDNA ANALYSIS
What is so curious about this line is that some of the members with well researched paper trails match better with some of the James Phelps line than with themselves. As with the James Phelps line, all have dual values at DYS 448 and all are Haplogroup E. The inconsistant values of 12 or 13 at DYS439 causes one to wonder if the lineages are aligned correctly. Also the 35 in DYS449 for kit 67919 is a concern considering many of the Felps/Phelps of the line of Thomas Felps of Maryland have this value. However solid paper trails trump ydna concerns
If we were to isolate these kits the DNA results would not be as impressive as we would like. Because these lines are so well researched, and because they match so well with some of the James Phelps of Caswell, NC line, (and the Pond) I feel we can say the line is proven back to Thomas Phelps b ca 1686 Albemarle Co. However further DNA tests are desirable.
Below in orange is the likely YDNA (modal) of the common ancestor of all three major Phelps lines and the likely (modal) of Thomas Phelps d 1751.
FTDNA's comment: "It is obvious from our observation of 10's of 1000's of samples that some markers change or mutate at a faster rate than others. Therefore not all markers should be treated the same for evaluation purposes. The markers in red below have shown a faster mutation rate then the average, and therefore these markers are very helpful at splitting lineages into sub sets, or branches, within your family tree." They also add that when a red fast moving marker mutation alone implies a wrong branch, strong consideration or preference should be given to proven paper trails.
